Maboneng

The Maboneng Precinct is a connected urban neighbourhood in downtown Johannesburg. Maboneng is a Sesotho word meaning “place of light”. and is fast becoming Joburg’s most unique and innovative area, offering live/ work and entertainment.

This magical urban neighbourhood is the centre of creative energy with a mix of restaurants, coffee shops, clothing boutiques, art galleries, retail and studio space. The precinct draws the inner-city public as well as the chic, art-going crowd of the city’s suburbs, bringing life back to this downtown Johannesburg neighbourhood. The area also drives Johannesburg tourism within the local and international tourist markets. Maboneng boasts an abundantly inclusive vibe, which a must see for everyone in Joburg and the world.

History of Maboneng

Maboneng was Found by jonathan Liebman and Propertuity around the year 2009. Downtown inthose times was a no go zone because of crime, filthiness and that part of johannebsurg was forgotten, and it was just old factory buildings with no life.

Vision

His Vision was to create a fully intergrated, mixeduse and mixed income neighbourhood with a connected communitythat could set a benchmark for the rest of the city, and that was the birth place of Maboneng as we know it.

Strategy

the concept for Propertuity was to develop iconic buildings and apartments that could restore downtown city toa better place to live in, and so they did.

The Vision for Maboneng Society

The vision for Maboneng Society is to evolve the precinct, revolutionising a significant portion of Johannesburg’s inner city and incorporating business, housing and creative spaces for use by people from all walks of life.

Arts on Main was born from a collection of abandoned warehouses that have a great architectural character and were strategically allocated at the Eastern gateway of the city. now has evolved into the cultural heartbeat of Maboneng. Once forgotten space now pulsates with creativity, serving as a vibrant testament to the transformative power of art and community.
